Terms of Service
My Chem Mentor Refund & Cancellation Policy
What does this policy cover?
This policy covers what you buy directly from My Chem Mentor (MCM): 1:1 tutoring, coaching sessions, prepaid session packages, Group Sessions (the 2-5 student variant of the same tiers, at a discounted per-student rate), the Coaching Program ($2,400 per quarter), VIP, and the Prep & Review course library, delivered virtually through Kedyou. VIP and Prep & Review courses are all-sales-final categories with no refunds; see the section on VIP and Prep & Review below.
You pay for MCM sessions, packages, and courses before they happen. This policy explains what money comes back to you, and when, once you have paid. The late-cancellation and no-show fees described later in this policy are the only charges MCM adds after your original payment.
This policy does not cover:
- Institutional programs. Intensives, semester cohort coaching, and school-booked workshops are sold under their own written agreements. Those agreements set the refund and cancellation terms for those programs, not this policy.
- The Full Journey. The Full Journey ($16,000+, MCM's multi-year integrated coaching-and-chemistry-support arc) is sold under its own signed agreement. That agreement sets the refund and cancellation terms for The Full Journey, not this policy.
When can I get a full refund? The first-session guarantee
If your first-ever tutoring or coaching session with MCM is not a good fit, you get a full refund. You do not need to give a reason.
What refunds depends on how you paid for that first session:
- If you bought a package. your entire package refunds in full.
- If you paid pay-as-you-go (no package). the session you paid for refunds in full.
- If your first-ever session was a Coaching Program session. the quarter you prepaid refunds in full. For this first-ever session only, the guarantee overrides the quarter-finality rule below.
This guarantee applies once, ever: to your first-ever session with MCM. After that first session, refunds follow the rules below. VIP and Prep & Review course purchases are not covered by this guarantee; those categories are all-sales-final under their own rule below.
What happens if I cancel a package partway through?
Sessions you have already had are not refundable. Once a session is delivered, that portion of your payment is final.
For the sessions you have not yet had, your refund is calculated this way:
- Start with the package price you paid.
- Subtract the individual-session rate ($120/hr), not the discounted package rate, for every session you already used.
- What is left is your refund, with one floor: your refund is never less than $0. Cancelling a package never leaves you owing MCM money.
You buy a 5-session package at the $100/hr package rate ($500 total) and use 3 sessions before you stop. Refund = $500 paid, minus (3 sessions x $120/hr individual rate) = $500 - $360 = $140 refunded.
You buy a 50-session package at the $80/hr package rate ($4,000 total) and use 34 sessions before you stop. Refund = $4,000 paid, minus (34 sessions x $120/hr individual rate) = $4,000 - $4,080 = -$80, which floors to $0 refunded. You do not owe MCM the $80 difference.
This $120/hr re-rate is uniform: it applies the same way to every student's used sessions, including students on a grandfathered, legacy, or cadence-based individual rate. The discounted package rate only applies if you complete the full package. Stopping early re-prices the sessions you did use at the standalone individual rate, and only the true remainder, floored at $0, comes back to you.
Cancelling a package is a terminal cancellation: before issuing the refund above, MCM will make sure you have seen the package-expiry policy below, so you can choose between the refund and keeping your remaining sessions available until they expire.
What if I am in a Group Session and cancel partway through a package?
Group Sessions work differently from the individual re-rate above. If you cancel a Group Session package partway through, your unused sessions refund at the per-student rate you actually paid for that package, with no re-rate to the $120/hr individual rate. Refund = (number of unused sessions) x (the per-student rate you paid for the package).
The late-cancellation and no-show fees described later in this policy apply to Group Sessions the same way they apply to every other session under this policy.
What happens if I cancel my Coaching Program partway through a quarter?
The Coaching Program ($2,400 per quarter) is billed and refunded by the quarter, not by the session.
- Once your quarter begins (the date of its first scheduled session). that quarter's $2,400 payment is final. Stopping partway through a started quarter does not refund any part of it. One exception: if that first scheduled session is your first-ever session with MCM and it is not a good fit, the first-session guarantee above refunds the quarter in full.
- If you cancel before your quarter begins. the full amount you prepaid for that quarter refunds in full.
Do my prepaid sessions expire?
All prepaid sessions, whether bought as a package or individually pay-as-you-go, expire 12 months from your purchase date. If you have not used a prepaid session by then, it is forfeited: it is not refunded and does not carry over past the expiration date.
This is different from actively cancelling. If you cancel before your sessions expire, the applicable cancellation rule applies: the $120/hr re-rate for packages, the per-student-rate refund for Group Session packages, or, for a pay-as-you-go session, the terminal-cancellation rule below. If you simply let the 12-month window pass without cancelling, the unused sessions are forfeited outright, with no refund.
Are VIP and Prep & Review course purchases refundable?
No. VIP and Prep & Review course purchases are final.
- VIP. Once you enroll in VIP, your $25,000 retainer is not refundable for any reason.
- Prep & Review courses. Once you purchase a course from the Prep & Review library, that purchase is not refundable for any reason.
What happens if I cancel or miss a scheduled session?
This section applies to any session you have scheduled under this policy, whether it is part of 1:1 tutoring, a coaching session, a package, a Group Session, VIP, or a Coaching Program quarter. Free consultations are not prepaid sessions; nothing in this section applies to them, and they carry no fees.
- 24 hours or more notice. You can reschedule at no charge, and what you paid carries over to the new date. Cancelling a session does not by itself refund it: a prepaid session stays yours to reschedule until it expires under the expiry policy above. If you decide you do not want a session ever (a cancellation with no intent to reschedule), MCM can issue a refund of the unused prepaid amount, after making sure you have seen the expiry policy so you know the session would otherwise stay available to you until it expires. That terminal-cancellation path is routed by product: package holders follow the package cancellation rules above, Coaching Program students follow the quarter rules above, and VIP and Prep & Review purchases remain all-sales-final.
- Less than 24 hours notice (late cancellation). The prepaid cost of that session is forfeited, and a late-cancellation fee applies: 25% of the non-discounted individual rate, $30 for a standard hour-long session. MCM will not schedule you for any future sessions until this fee is paid.
- No-show. If you are not present within 15 minutes of your scheduled start time and have not given notice, you are marked a no-show. Unlike a late cancellation, the session itself is not forfeited, but a no-show fee applies: 50% of the non-discounted individual rate, $60 for a standard hour-long session. That specific session cannot be rescheduled until the fee is paid.
For Coaching Program and VIP sessions, which are not priced per session, a forfeited session means the session slot itself is lost outright and is not made up; the $30 late-cancellation fee or $60 no-show fee still applies per session either way.
MCM enforces this section at its discretion, including whether to make an exception in a particular situation. This policy does not have a separate carve-out for illness, family emergencies, or any other circumstance.
Does MCM offer hardship discounts or refunds?
No. MCM does not offer hardship-based discounts, refunds, or case-by-case financial-hardship exceptions of any kind. The only refund paths this policy provides are the first-session guarantee, the package re-rate above, the Group Session unused-session refund, the terminal-cancellation refund of an unused prepaid session, and a refund of an unstarted Coaching Program quarter.
Can MCM make exceptions to this policy?
This policy is here so you always know, up front, how MCM handles refunds and cancellations. It describes MCM's standard practice, and it is not a limit on MCM's ability to be flexible in a given situation.
MCM reserves the right to apply, waive, or enforce any part of this policy at its own discretion, including approving or declining any individual refund, credit, or fee in a particular case. If MCM chooses not to enforce a provision once, that choice does not waive the provision and does not commit MCM to the same choice in any future case. Nothing in this policy removes a refund right that Maryland or federal law requires MCM to honor; where this policy and the law disagree, the law controls.
How do refunds get paid?
Refunds are paid as money, sent electronically. MCM sends your refund through the payment channel you used to pay, or another electronic method MCM designates.
